This place is famous as the village of late VC Capt. Gage Ghale, who was able to win highest honors Victoria Cross medal in Second World War in Burma and also decorated with Nepal Tara by late King of Nepal.
There is local myth that there was Ghale Raja who ruled Barpak and surroundings Gorkha. The village used to be trail for salt traded between Tibetans and Newaris of Kathmandu in the early day of 1400 BC. During the unification campaign let by Shaha dynasty of Nepal by king Drabya Shah and Prithibi Narayan Shah, they called Ghale Raja for peace talk and was believed to be tricked and moped out in Nimel on the sandy bank of Daraudhi River. For this particular reason, people of Barpak still do not drink the water of that river believing that the blood of the Ghale Raja was mixed into the river.
Barpak has nearly 1100 households and nearly 15 thousand populations mainly with Ghale and Gurung tribes. There are small numbers of Kami, Damai and Sunar in the village serving the community from generation after generation.
Barpak has sole history significance despite its isolation from mainstream politics and bustling city. Its breath taking natural beauty has melted so many hearts and drawn so many people from around the world. It has been visited by German chancellor Dr. Roman Herzog in early 97. The unique sloppy shape of the village with clustered stone tile-roofed housed believe to be the reason behind main attractions to the people wishing to visit Barpak once they have seen pictures of Barpak. Barpak is one of the stopover village routes of trekking around Manaslu. Peak has attracted countless tourist with is genuine hospitality of and natural beauty.
